Every Christmas a nativity scene depicting Christ's birth is built in all Polish Catholic churches. It is a tradition in Kraków to take a walk on the Boxing Day, visiting churches on the way and taking a while to pray.

Franciscans from the Order of Friars Minor settled in Kraków in the first half of 17th century. When their original monastery just outside the town walls had been destroyed during the Swedish invasion, they decided to move to a safer place and a new church was erected in 1666-1672. The dark one-naved interior hides some Baroque altars from 1747; ceiling paintings are just a hundred years old.
